Let’s Talk Rom-Coms

One genre I’ve always been a huge fan of, stereotypically, is a good old Rom-Com or “chick flick”. They’re enjoyable to watch and perfect for a relaxing night in. Here are a handful of some of my favourites that I could watch again and again.

Since The Proposal was released it has always been one of my favourite films. Starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, this film is about a power crazy female boss who forces her young assistant (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her in order for her to keep her Visa Status in the U.S. to avoid being deported to Canada. It’s such a great film and never gets boring.

I love Blended! It stars the talented duo from 50 first dates and The Wedding Singer, Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, and is a feel good film about two single parents, one with all sons and one with all daughters, continuously meeting after a really bad date. They even end up going to the same holiday resort. I won’t spoil the rest but it’s a great film.

The Other Woman is sooo funny!! I could watch this over and over!! The storyline looks into female friendship formed through being cheated on by the same guy- instead of the girls hating on each other they become best friends on a mission to seek revenge. Brilliant!

I’ve seen Bride Wars sooooo many times! Two best friends end up getting proposed to at the same time and their wedding is mistakenly booked at the same time on the same day and neither will budge. This only means one thing- they try to sabotage each other’s day!!

The Holiday is the perfect film for a cosy winters night in around Christmas time. The film stars Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black and is about 2 women, one from America and one from England, who  swap homes after their really bad breakup. I’ve seen it numerous times and it’s a really classic, nice, easy going, cute film.

If you think Kevin Hart is a funny guy you will love this film and it’s definitely worth a watch! This films about 4 women who are atrocious at dating so they resort to a book written for women, ‘Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man.’ The guys they’re dating (who are friends) find out and use it against them!! I’d say it’s a movie perfect for date night or to watch with friends as it’s not too cute, dramatic or soppy.

I like this film simply because Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake’s chemistry and friendship show exactly how a relationship should be (well they do eventually get together!!). They show how your partner should be your best friend; someone who understands you, someone to have a laugh with and someone to just share everything with. It’s a great film.
